Custom software development

Luciérnaga Labs designs and builds custom software for companies that have outgrown spreadsheets, off-the-shelf tools or disconnected systems: web applications, internal and enterprise platforms, backends and APIs. A small team of experienced engineers takes the work from discovery to production and keeps evolving it after launch. The studio is based in Colombia and works with clients around the world, in English or Spanish.

When does a company need custom software?

When a core process lives in spreadsheets and email, when the systems you already pay for don’t talk to each other, or when the product you want to sell doesn’t exist yet. Off-the-shelf software is the right answer more often than people expect, and we say so when it is.

How does a project work?

Discovery first: the business problem, the users, the constraints and what success looks like. Then architecture, scope and a delivery roadmap. We build in short iterations you can see and test, validate functionality, reliability, security and performance, and deploy to production with monitoring in place. After launch we keep evolving the product or hand it over with documentation.

Which technologies do we use?

We choose based on the problem and the team that will maintain it. Most often: Python, TypeScript, React, .NET and PostgreSQL on AWS, with Docker, CI/CD and observability as standard.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a custom software project take?

It depends on scope, so we don’t quote a number before discovery. Discovery produces a roadmap with milestones, and the first release is planned to reach production as early as it can be useful.

Can you work with our existing systems?

Do you work with companies outside Colombia?

Yes. We work remotely with teams worldwide, in English or Spanish. We work on US Eastern/Central hours (UTC−5), with good overlap with the US West Coast, Latin America and European mornings.
