Mobile app development

Luciérnaga Labs builds iOS and Android apps, together with the backend services and architecture behind them, for companies taking a product or an operation mobile. We build native (Swift) or cross-platform (React Native) depending on the product, and take the app from design to store release and beyond. The studio is based in Colombia and works with clients around the world, remotely.

Native or cross-platform?

Cross-platform (React Native with TypeScript) is usually the fastest way to ship one product to both stores with one team. Native iOS (Swift) makes sense when the app depends on platform features, performance or hardware. We recommend one after understanding the product, not before.

What happens after launch?

Apps need updates for new OS versions, store policies and user feedback. We set up crash reporting and usage data from the first release, so decisions about what to improve rest on evidence, and we can keep evolving the app under the Partner model.

Do you also build the backend?

Yes. The same engineering team builds the APIs and services the app depends on, often shared with a web application.

Can you take over an existing app?

Do you work with companies outside Colombia?

Yes. We work remotely with teams worldwide, in English or Spanish. We work on US Eastern/Central hours (UTC−5), with good overlap with the US West Coast, Latin America and European mornings.
